Open Claw AI, where did the popularity come from?

What is Open Claw AI?
On the front page of OpenClaw’s website, its very own slogan claims: “ Clears your inbox, sends emails, manages your calendar, and checks you in for flights. All from WhatsApp, Telegram, or any chat app you already use.” These 2 sentences give you a brief overview of its capabilities, an AI, in relation to the completion of daily tasks? That almost seems impossible. How come?
Functions:
Many users use Open Claw to operate and complete simple daily tasks on applications such as Whatsapp, telegram, Discord, Slack, and even Spotify. The tasks include but are not limited to summarizing emails, simple replying, scheduling calendars, messaging automatically and more. Most of these functions are prebuilt by other users and the platform itself; this also means that, unlike Anthropic, which you would have to code yourself, Open Claw focuses on useful, simplistic built-in functions that users can directly apply to their daily applications.
However, for audiences who wanted a more tailored, specified focus, Open Claw also allows personalized functions that would require to be coded by yourself. Moreover, for tasks that require reviewing more personal information such as account passwords or files, designing your very own module could guarantee more security than relying on an external plugin which you have less control over.

Popularity:
In only a single week after its release, Open Claw had reached more than approximately 2 million visits on Github (a platform for developers), and has a weekly download of around 1.5 downloads per week (newsroom.seaprwire.com).
People had used it to publish articles online, respond to hundreds of messages. The former CEO of CMCM.US, Mr. Fu, even claimed that the 24 hour operating AI almost resembles a 8 person team(baijiahao.baidu.com) .
Risks:
Even though Open Claw does seem to be quite novel and encouraging, there’s always multiple lenses to a topic. Under its tempting popularity, security is at stake. Firstly, some free download, open source, and prebuilt modules ( formally named “skills” in open claw) had been reported to contain the potential codes that triggers intentional leakage of data, potentially stealing users login codes. Secondarily, its performance of executing tasks aren’t stable; many had reported instances of it deleting all of their inbox emails before confirming.
Insights (conclusion):
In conclusion, Open Claw does offer a step forward to the futuristic future of the notion: AI helping with human tasks. Contrasting to AIs such as Open AI or Deep seek, Open Claw doesn’t require users to repetitively mention a task every time one needs it to execute it. Although right at this moment its wide application is still bleak and people should also be cautious downloading it, it does offer insights into how the future might work cohesively with the help of AI.
