Analysis on the Trend of Blind Box & Pop Mart

Widening Global Influence

How does Pop Mart widen its global influence on consumers? Pop Mart relies on 3 major retail channels: Expansion of retail stores on a global scale, online app integration and IP-positioned theme parks.

  1. In 2024, Pop Mart had over 450 physical stores globally alongside  2300 robo-shops. The number of physical stores in mainland China has increased by 38, while the number of robo-shops has increased by 110. In 2024, it launched stores in 5 more countries globally: Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Italy, and Spain. That is given the 13 countries it has already launched stores in. On top of that, Pop Mart has also hosted pop-up shops involving popular IPs, such as LABUBU( 2024 report)
  2. In 2024, Pop Mart focused on its collaboration with online platforms, exemplifying Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon, each platform dedicated to a slightly varying region, eg, Shopee, Lazada to South Asia and Amazon to Europe and America. This helps the brand to connect with customers through their product reviews and refine marketing strategies. Pop Mart also has its own TikTok and Instagram accounts to keep up with recent trends, including using live-streaming as a way to gain brand recognition as well as commercial monetization (2024 report).
  3. Pop Mart opened an IP-themed park in Beijing. Within the park, there are often performances of beloved characters as well as humble amusement rides and multiple Pop Mart retail stores within the park. As many critics say, this is Pop Mart’s endeavour to imitate the path of Disney, eventually creating robust bonds with customers by IP. Although it is a bold move indeed, due to Pop Mart and Disney have innately reversed starts. We can still label this as an attempt of Pop Mart to expand its influence by following the routes of predecessors.

As an ending notes temporarily for Pop Mart’s ambitious expansion, dating back to 2025 October, we have heard Pop Mart’s third quarter revenue has remarked a 250% YoY (year over year) growth, alongside a 365% approximate growth with international revenue (beyond Asia) for it’s third quarter report (Feng). Proving its successful harvest of 2024’s seeds as well as 2025’s recent metrics of preserving popular IPs as it steps deeper and deeper into the international market.
